The king of the Sartiglia, the ancient equestrian tournament held in Oristano, is Su Componidori, and he leads the joust to spear the star, guiding the other knights as they tempt fate after him. This wine has a warm, harmonious and full-bodied taste, just like the taste of victory. The bouquet has hints of almond blossom and is the perfect accompaniment to typical Sardinian desserts. As well as being an exquisite dessert wine, Componidori is also an excellent aperitif and pairs well with mullet roe.
THE COMPANY
The Attilio Contini Winery has been involved in traditional and modern wine production for over a century. Founded in 1898 by Salvatore Contini, today it represents supreme excellence within the Sardinian wine scene.
The Contini family’s journey along the path of wine has been long and exciting. Nowadays Attilio, Salvatore’s son, carries on his father’s hard work. He has enlarged the current winery and increased the area of the vineyards.
But how does it feel today to go into Contini’s winery?
There you will find the dedication and expertise of Paolo Contini, his grandchildren and winemaker Piero Cella in the selection of the grapes, in the winemaking and in the aging processes.
The company is located in Cabras, on the Sinis peninsula, just a short distance from the Phoenician city of Tharros, the village of San Salvatore and the archeological site of “Sa Osa”, where grape seeds from 2000BC have been found, which are the oldest evidence of wine cultivation in Sardinia.
The experience and the energy of generations of the Contini family have produced the company’s crown jewels, an excellent wine called Vernaccia. This wine has won many awards, such as a gold medal at the Milan Exhibition in 1912 and 1913, and it was also the first Sardinian wine to win the Tre Bicchieri del Gambero Rosso award in 1989. However, our journey in wine experimentation doesn’t stop there.
Other Contini products include Vermentino and Cannonau, Nieddera from the same vine, and the Mamaioa wines, which are natural wines without added sulphites.
Our most excellent achievement during this journey of experimentation is represented by Karmis, a unique wine obtained from a shrewd combination of Vernaccia and Vermentino grapes. Contini is a company with a strong tradition that also has an eye to innovation.
This concept, together with that “Sardinian touch”, accompanies every bottle of Contini wine at the local, national and international level.
