Pane Pistoccu is Pane Carasau's tougher and thicker brother: it is square in shape as opposed to round Carasau, and it can be stored safely for a much longer time. Pistoccu - Sardinian for "biscuit" - was the bread of the poor yet proud Sardinian shepherd, good for all occasion, crumbled in a glass of sheep's milk, or simply lightly soaked with water and eaten with a slice of Pecorino sheep cheese.

The Ferreli Bakery is one of the shrines of these centuries-old traditions. It is a small, family-operated artisan bakery located in Ogliastra, at the very core of the Pane Carasau and Pane Pistoccu district, and right in the centre of one of Sardinia's most unspoiled and wood-draped areas The Ferreli brothers have inherited their parents' golden hands, and his devotion for this humble yet sacred food. Their burning love for Sardinia and its history led them to take up on their family roots and breathe new life into this old tradition. Pane Carasau, in their own words, is "an ancient bread for modern times".
